Battlestar Galactia - The Complete Series (9 Blu-rays + 1 DVD)(Exclusive Amazon.de)

Release date [GER] December 6, 2013

While browsing through the German amazon website I bumped on this release! first I thought it was the 2003 remake version but it really is the original series and the following series Galactica 80 in one set! So all over the world the pilot was released last year but in Germany they did it a little bigger, again...well done! One drawback, the price is pretty high, at the moment 65 euro's.

The release has a German and an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 soundtrack that's perhaps disappointing, it also has German and English, so that is very positive and according to a number of reviews on amazon, the picture quality is more than okay. So the only drawback seems to be the soundtrack and the price but the original Battlestar Galactica series and Galactica 80 on blu-ray is perhaps worth it! Among the special features, which is always very important with such an influencial show: Commentaries, Trailers, Featurettes, Two documentaties, Deleted scenes.

I was about to watch the original Galactica again on my old 2004 DVD set but I think now I will wait till the price of this set drops a bit.

Battlestar Galactica (1978) - Pilot Episode(s)

Release date [US/Canada] August 6, 2013

Release date [UK] October 7, 2013

Release date [GER] September 5, 2013

Tipped by a fellow sci-fi fan who told me yesterday that the 1978 original Battlestar Galactica was going to be released on Blu-Ray, at least the 3 pilot episodes because of the 35 year anniversary of this tv series. This was quite a surprise and unfortunately at the moment only a "best buy" release but this will probably change very soon to a general release.

I haven't found any big reviews yet but what I could find about it, is that the picture quality looks very impressive, especially the not SFX scenes look great, the SFX scenes could be better but still okay, they really should need an overhaul like the Star Trek TOS sets got. It's finally available in anamorphic. No extra's, no subtitles unfortunately, let's hope that a full season release is a possibility too in the near future.

Update: The pilot is going to be released in the UK and Germany also and will have a wide release in North America on August 6.
