Battlestar: Blood & Chrome could have been the new space oriented tv series on Syfy after Stargate Universe was cancelled! Was it perfect? No, was it in the same league as it's 2003 original? No. But was it fun? Hell yes, wasn't it great to see those gorgeous space scenes which we have come to love from the Battlestar 2003 series? Blood & Chrome was not perfect but which pilot ever is, especially with character driven series. I loved the setting, back in the day of the Cylon war, seeing how it all began, seeing Adama grow into the man we came to know.

Most of the CGI was more than okay, there were only instances when I thought it could have been done better. The CGI in the 2003 series was near perfect, that wasn't the case here but it was still impressive....for a webseries, which, according to Syfy, was always the intention with this series. Unfortuately this project was not given a chance, after long debating apparently, it was decided there wasn't going to be a follow-up series. This is all you get, nothing more and that is a shame if you ask me! Also you will find a lot of familiar actors in this pilot, to name a few: Ben Cotton (Stargate Atlantis), John Pyper-Ferguson (Alphas, Jeremiah), Brian Markinson (Continuum, Stargate SG1), Karen LeBlanc (Defying Gravity), Sebastian Spence (First Wave & BSG2003).

In the extra department, there is some lacking, only one feature and some deleted scenes. Should I recommend this you ask me, hell yes, it's interesting, it's an expansion of the Battlestar Galactica universe, it's certainly worth the watch. Just try it out!

Special Features:

  • Blood & Chrome: Visual Effects (HD, 23 minutes): Supplements are pretty light, especially for a BSG release. First up, a lengthy look at the film's special effects, which based on the number of effects essentially amounts to a full production featurette. Casting and story are passed over without much thought, of course, but the resulting overview certainly pulls back the curtain and reveal the secrets behind Blood & Chrome's standout sequences.

  • Deleted Scenes (HD, 29 minutes): Thirteen deleted and extended scenes round out the package, each of which is unfinished, green screen, partially rendered effects and all. Scenes include "Jarheads and Their War Porn," "Nuggets," "Adama's First Taste of Action," "A Hat Trick," "An Unlikely Marriage," "Hands-On Landing on a Half Pint," "Lucky," "Mission Prep," "Tracking the Signal," "Getting to Know Toth," "Out of Line," "Toasters Storm the Barricade" and "Out for Snowball Patrol."

Sometimes is hard to understand why are there so many deleted scenes.

Indeed Dostava, strange indeed, was it all that bad, why isn't it incorperated in a special version of the pilot, why not 2 versions on this release. Probably comes down to money...
