Continuum Has Been Renewed for a Shortened Final Season
After several months of no communication regarding Continuum's fate, it seems that the onset of the
holiday season has put Canadian TV network Showcase in a giving mood! The sci-fi drama, which stars Rachel Nichols as a cop from the year 2077 who time-travels back to the present day, had been
renewed for a fourth season that's scheduled to air in 2015. Nichols confirmed the news on Twitter on Monday evening. As it's done in the past, Syfy will import the drama for American
Unfortunately, with the good news also comes some bad news: Continuum's upcoming fourth season will not only be shortened to six episodes, it will also be the show's last. For fans who are disappointed by this news, Nichols feels your pain, but is choosing to focus on the silver lining of the situation: "Yes, the words LAST SEASON and ONLY SIX EPISODES are a disappointment to many," she tweeted, "but look at the bright side: CONTINUUM gets a proper ending!"
Hey, the lady has a point. The fact that the show will have a chance to wrap up that cliffhanger from the Season 3 finale is a pretty big deal!

Ryan Robbins is no stranger to sci-fi and fantasy on TV. Every sci-fi fan knows of him. Just look at his IMdB page and you will find out he was on many of your favourite sci-fi series. In the early days of his career he had guest spots on: Millennium (1999), Strange World (1999), The Net (1999) and Seven Days (1998-1999).
He also had two guest spots on Dark Angel (2001-2001). Later on he has credits like: Jeremiah, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Stargate Atlantis and so on, it's really surprising in how many sci-fi TV series he pops up! Of course everybody knows him probably best for his role on Sanctuary and last few years he also was on Falling Skies. Now he again joins another sci-fi show, of course this is Continuum. He is a very busy guy that is for sure.

With its third season on the way, Showcase’s time-travel drama Continuum has quietly become one of the most compelling sci-fi shows out there — and it sounds like things are getting even wilder in 2014.
While promoting an upcoming film project, star Rachel Nichols (Officer Kiera Cameron) opened up to Collider about what fans of the twisty series can expect this season. In addition to some time-travel shenanigans that sound suspiciously like Back to the Future II, she also dropped a bombshell that we’ll have a major death at the start of year three.
One of the show’s larger mysteries, the time-traveling cabal nicknamed the Freelancers, will also be explained when season three resumes. The future-tinged mythology has always been a strength of the show, and now it sounds like the writers are finally doubling down.
Here’s an excerpt of her comments:
“We started shooting Season 3 already. We got three episodes finished before Christmas break. What I can tell you is that, at the end of Season 2, Alec (Erik Knudsen) clearly betrayed Kiera and went back in time. At the beginning of Season 3, you learn a lot more about The Freelancers. I can’t say how, but I can say that Kiera ends up going back in time to the point where Alec went back in time to save Emily (Magda Apanowicz). So, suddenly there are two Alecs and two Kieras and we can’t run into each other, obviously. Right off the bat, in Season 3, you’ve got craziness ensuing. There’s a death. There’s a description of The Freelancers.
I’m happy to say that Terry Chen is back, in a big, big way. And overall, for this season, what I’m feeling is that where Kiera was always about getting home before, acknowledging her impact on the world, with everything she was doing in the present day, now I think there’s a part of her that’s going to be relegated to staying here and really setting up life and knowing she’s going to be here for awhile, and maybe even wanting to. That will be a back change for her, given the fact that her family is in the future.”
This sure looks promising, really hope it will be as exciting as it's second season because that was a thrilling season. The exact broadcast date has not yet been announced but it was said, see few post below, it was gonna be in March, but not sure yet. I will keep you informed of course.

The strangest thing, Continuum - Season One, was not yet available in Canada till now! Okay, there were a few lucky ones earlier this year, one of them was I who purchased a copy from the Canadian Amazon site, but in general it was not yet available in Canada. Well that's changed as of today, Canadian fans are now also able to purchase their copy of the first season, although it's only possible to purchase it online, via Continuum Merchandising and you can only purchase a copy if you have your deliveradress in Canada. The DVD is (CA$19.99) and the Blu-ray Disc set (CA$29.99). It's very strange this Canadian produced series is not available in stores in Canada but at least fans are able to purchase it now domesticly.
It apparently comes with all the same contents as the U.S. version of the set, plus these new extras:

Filming of season 3 has already begun and late last month it was announced that Continuum won't return in April like last year, or May, like it's freshman season, but in March! So a little sooner than expected, which is good because it's been too long since we've seen a new Continuum episode. The exact date has not yet been communicated as of yet but as soon as I have this info I will let you know of course.
In season three of Continuum, Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols; Criminal Minds, Alias) faces the immediate consequences of Alec Sadler's (Erik Knudsen; Jericho, Scream 4) betrayal at the end of season two - when he disappeared in a flash of light with the time travel device Kiera hoped might send her home. Alec's impulsive decision sets in motion a chain of events, which pushes Kiera into a shocking alliance with a former enemy.
Kiera must also contend with a newly strategic Liber8 organization, and a growing darkness in her police partner, Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster; Castle, Melrose Place). Ultimately, all roads lead through young Alec Sadler, and with his genius never having been more tested, his choices force Kiera - and everyone - to examine all they hold dear.
"Season three of Continuum will raise the stakes and expand the universe of our show in ways that will surprise and engage our fans," said creator/executive producer Simon Barry. "Kiera's journey brings her experiences that test her beliefs and challenge her resolve. The future is not what it used to be."
"We could not be happier about the phenomenal success of the show over the first two seasons, with a very loyal and enthusiastic fan base that continues to expand worldwide," said Reunion Pictures' Tom Rowe. "The third season, under the creative direction of Simon Barry, along with fellow Executive Producer/Director Patrick Williams, the first-rate writing team and our exceptional cast, again promises to exceed all expectations."
New to the cast this season is Rachael Crawford (Alphas,The Firm) who joins as a guest star in a multiple episode arc. Returning cast include Stephen Lobo (Smallville, Little Mosque On The Prairie), Lexa Doig (V, Stargate SG-I), Omari Newton (Blue Mountain State, Sophie), Luvia Petersen (The L Word) and Terry Chen (Bates Motel, Combat Hospital).

Kiera Cameron’s future looks bright Stateside, as Syfy has officially picked up Season 3 of Continuum, TVLine has learned exclusively. The Rachel Nichols-fronted Canadian production had received its order for another cycle earlier this summer, by Showcase.
Season 2 of the time-travel drama, which airs its finale here on Friday, Aug. 30, ranks as the No. 1 original cable drama in its time slot among Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and total viewers (where it’s averaging 1.8 million weekly, with Live+7 playback) — up 21 percent, 18 percent and 21 percent versus Season 1.
Although it was necassary that Showcase renewed the series, which it did of course, it's good to see Continuum also is popular in the US. Hopefully the stories stay enteraining and gripping.

Release date [GER] September 6, 2013
Germany is the second country as far as I am aware, that releases Continuum - Season 1 on Blu-Ray! Earlier this year it was released in the States while it officially hasn't been released yet in it's native country Canada. Continuum is one of the most popular new tv shows at the moment and in my opinion, rightfully so. Third season already certain so it seems to have a bright future.
I applaud Germany for releasing tv shows on blu-ray, it should be happening more but apparently it does not make enough money in most cases. Only the real popular ones get a definate Blu-Ray release, for the rest it's praying. Like in the States, also released by Universal, not sure at this point if it contains subtitles but besides the German soundtrack it does also have an English soundtrack.

Apparently Continuum is doing very well in Canada because Showcase announced it has been renewed for season 3! This is the best news ever, especially season 2 is becoming one of my favourite series of late. Really exciting episodes, evolving story, interesting characters.
Last year Showcase waited till August to renew this fine tv series, luckily they did not wait so long this time! So scifi finally is in the lift again with the renewel of Defiance, Continuum, Orphan Black and Doctor Who and also some new series on the horizon like the Blake's 7 remake, High Moon and Clandestine and even more.
This is an exciting time for a scifi fan, all we need now is more space faring scifi because let's face it, this is missing on our tv screens at the moment with SGU being the last one.

On Showcase last week's Lost Girl finale scored 269k viewers on Sunday @ 9 PM on Showcase while this week's Continuum season premiere did better with 375k in the same timeslot (about a 40% increases from Lost Girl's finale). Both shows are down from their previous seasons but still successful for Showcase.

One week after broadcasting Continuum‘s freshman finale Stateside, Syfy has picked up Season 2 of the Canadian-produced, Rachel Nichols-fronted sci-fi series. TVLine can also exclusively report that the aforementioned 13-episode second season will premiere on Syfy June 7 — in a new time slot, Fridays at 10/9c. During its first season, Continuum averaged 1.4 million total viewers, with 540K landing in the 18-49 demo (where it ranked No. 10 among all cable fare in its time slot).

We hear from our Canadian friends that Continuum is a DO NOT MISS series, so we’re really excited about it, and especially pleased that “coming in 2013″ has become “January 14, 2013″. It will be taking on that Mondays at 8 spot previous held by such favorites as Eureka and Alphas, and will be the lead-in for the season premieres of Being Human and Lost Girl. Mondays in 2013 will be excellent.

Continuum's seasons finale did leave a good impression regarding the ratings, although they were scheduled against the Olympics, Continuum drew in 309,000 viewers! Still even/more than the best numbers of Lost Girl. Nice work, even with the immense competition, Continuun impresses! No word yet about a season 2 but this is almost certainly a sure thing!

The viewers ratings took a hit last Sunday, probably due to the MMVA's which was broadcast in Canada at the same time. It was broadcast on Much Music and apparently not only Continuum suffered from this, other programms also. MMVA's 699,000 had viewers and Continuum 389,000.
Update: Simon Barry confirmed via Twitter today that the final viewing figures for episode 3 were a lot better than the first estimated ones! The first estimated figures were 531K but the final numbers for episode 3 have gone up to 828K! Season 2 here we come.

The musica for Continuum has caught the attention of many fans. After many requests, we’ve added some of the original music from Continuum and a playlist to our Episodes page. We’ll be updating the player with new tracks as they are released and adding them to the playlist. We asked Continuum composer, Jeff Danna, to share his insights and inspirations for the music of Continuum.
In his words:
When Simon Barry and I were conceiving the approach to the score to ' Continuum ' we agreed that the musical thread that anchored the score should be the same thing that anchors the show itself , Kiera.
Kiera's theme needed to be something that could be strong and self-assured , but also have aspects to it that could be vulnerable and even wistful for the past ( future! ) she has left behind. It needed to be memorable, and also malleable enough to be presented in any number of situations / moods that our heroine finds herself in. There are other musical themes in the show of course , Liber8 and Carlos/the Police are also featured musically , but the score starts with Kiera and the considerable grace and strength that Rachel Nichols brings to the role.
I encouraged a partially-orchestral approach to the series. The world that Simon has created for Continuum is not a small or safe place and calls for music that is as Cinematic as Simon's vision of his characters and stories. The Orchestra is the musical-partner for a story like this , and it is a large part of the soundscape of Continuum .
Check out the Episodes page and enjoy. Note you can pop-out the player for easy listening as you browse.

The numbers are in and the third episode also had impressive numbers, although there is a significant drop, it's still way more than the numbers from "Lost Girl" which has an average of 300.000 per episode and those were the highest numbers for Showcase until the pilot from Continuum. Continuum's numbers of episode 3 were 531.000 viewers! It's down from the second episode [671.000] and the pilot [900.000] but still impressive. When will they announce a second season!?
Update : The confirmed numbers for episode 2 are in and they are 897.000, that's a 35% increase from the estimated 670.000! Isn't this great!

Recently Gilles Nuytens from http://www.thescifiworld.net/ had an interview with Victor Webster from the new sf series Continuum. Gilles Nuytens asked him questions about his entire career, about his role on Scorpion King 3 but also about his new tv show Continuum. Gilles Nuytens asked if there was anybody who could help him with the transcription of this interview which he had done over the phone with Victor, and it seemed a fun thing to do, which it was, so I did it. Now the result of this interview you can read here : Interview Victor Webster on thescifiworld

For those who are curious in its 9 PM Showcase premiere Continuum averaged 900,000 viewers in its second week it got 670,000 at 9 PM, Lost Girl generally gets about 300,000 and used to be Showcase's number one series.
There were also repeat airings of Continuum at 11 PM and i think Showcase's 1.7 million number last week came from adding the two ratings and counting everyone who watched a second of the show rather than average viewership. Despite the Fall Continuum is most definitely a huge hit.

Liber8 are an integral part of what separates Continuum from other time travel and police procedural television series. A hazy line between what is right and wrong makes Liber8 such an intriguing cast of characters. Each is a skilled leader in a different discipline. They are specialists in tactics, weapons, engineering, survival, politics and social manipulation.
The members of Liber8 that travel back to 2012 and wreak havoc consists of eight extremely diverse and dedicated men and women, some educated, some simply brutal monsters, all sharing a desire to bring down civilization so that it may be re-built to serve them and their ideas. They represent the disenfranchised minority of the future that has found themselves out of step with the modern world they are living in.
For many, it will be hard not to agree with their philosophy -- but for most, it will be impossible to agree with their methods. In their time, they galvanized a force of lawless, desperate people and raised a motivated army that laid waste to several cities. They were stopped in their tracks just short of taking out the corporate leadership of the day.
Once captured and facing death for their crimes, they realized their only move was to attempt the impossible. Armed with a scientific genius in their midst, they chose the path of experimental time travel even though it was likely to kill them. Their plan was to only travel back a few years and correct a course that would take them to defeat, replacing it with one that would ensure victory.
This attempt failed on the one hand, but may yet succeed on the other. In travelling further back than planned, they have simply complicated their objectives. With hard work and criminal ingenuity, they can still accomplish all of their goals, assuming Kiera Cameron doesn’t stop them first.

Continuum is slated to premiere in Canada on Shaw Media’s specialty channel, Showcase in spring 2012. Back in November 2011, when this show was first announced, it had a different title, back than it was called : Out of Time. Announcement was also on this site, to go to that announcement, please scroll down.
