TNT’s summer sci-fi drama Falling Skies has been renewed for a fifth and final season, and the network also gave a second-season order to freshman hit The Last Ship and a fourth-season pickup to Major Crimes. Falling Skies‘ final run will be for 10 episodes. TNT has ordered 13 episodes of Last Ship, an increase over its first-season order of 10 episodes.
I hear it was the producers’ wish to finish Falling Skies after five seasons as they felt that was the time they needed to wrap the story in the best possible way. For TNT, the pending loss of the demo rating dynamo would have been a big blow had it not been for the arrival of another breakout adventure drama, Michael Bay’s The Last Ship, which this summer, much like Rizzoli & Isles, came on just before previous TNT flagship, The Closer, wrapped its run. Falling Skies helped launch Last Ship much like The Closer launched Rizzoli & Isles. Last Ship has averaged more than 7.2 million viewers in Live + 7 and ranks as basic cable’s #1 scripted series this summer with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 as well as also cable’s #1 new series for the year-to-date among total viewers and adults 25-54.
In its fourth season, Falling Skies still averages a healthy 5.5 million+ viewers in Live + 7, including 2.5 million adults 25-54 and 2.1 million adults 18-49. Falling Skies producer Amblin TV already has another series lined up on TNT, Public Morals. Its portfolio also includes Under The Dome, Extant, The Americans, Red Band Society and Whispers. Major Crimes is showing an uptick over last year, with 7 million viewers in Live + 7 for Season 3. It averages 2.1 million adults 25-54 and 1.5 million adults 18-49.

The Last Ship had a big bow on Sunday night, premiering to 5.3 million total viewers, with 1.5 mil landing in the 18-49 sweet spot.
The TNT freshman thus stands as the No. 1 cable launch for the year-to-date. (And with an encore folded in, its numbers swelled to 7.4 mil/2.3 mil.)
Leading out of that, Falling Skies‘ Season 4 opener did 3.7 mil/1.3 mil, down from both its previous premiere (4.2 mil/1.9 mil) and its August finale (3.7 mil/1.6 mil). With an encore added in, the alien invasion drama 2nd (a)Massed 4.7 mil/1.7 mil.
A very good start for The Last Ship, Falling Skies again return down from it's previous year. It never was a problem because the numbers were still always big for TNT.

Falling Skies, one of the few remaining sci-fi series on TV, is returning this June, June 22nd to be exact, it's lead in will be another series which has some sci-fi (ish) elements and that is The Last Ship. Falling Skies will be back with it's fourth season and for the first time it will be twelve episodes instead of just 10. The Last Ship will star Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra and Alec Baldwin. See post below to read the announcement:
TNT’s The Last Ship, a military/outbreak thriller fronted by Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) and also starring Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin, will set sail on Sunday, June 22 at 9/8c, the cabler has announced. Season 4 of Falling Skies will lead out of The Last Ship that night, airing at 10/9c.
October 30, 2013
Scarlett Byrne, who played Pansy Parkinson in the final three Harry Potter movies, has joined the cast of TNT‘s alien drama Falling Skies as a new series regular. She plays a mysterious young woman with special powers and an unusual connection to the alien invaders.
Byrne’s character, who is said to be key to the story next season, is featured in the final frame (pictured right) of the recently released first Season 4 trailer. Byrne, repped by the BWH Agency, Schumacher Management, and Hansen Jacobsen, recently wrapped the feature Skybound.

Mira Sorvino is set to recur on the fourth season of TNT‘s popular alien invasion drama Falling Skies, set for a summer 2014 premiere. She will play Sara, a woman far removed from her former life as a graphic designer who is now dogged by death at every turn, yet she has never felt more alive, free or fearless.
A chance encounter with guerrilla fighter John Pope (Colin Cunningham) leads her to join the resistance and develop a strong personal bond with the outlaw-turned-warrior. This marks Oscar winner Sorvino’s return to TNT where she recently toplined drama pilot Trooper. Falling Skies is produced by DreamWorks TV.

It took 3 seasons but it is finally announced that for season 4, Falling Skies will not consist of 10 episodes, but 12! I admit, it's not a huge but 12 is certainly better than 10. Two more weeks of Falling Skies with season 4. Falling Skies will return June 2014.

TNT has renewed its Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama Falling Skies for Season 4 — news that may come as a surprise to those who read too much into series lead Noah Wyle’s recent quotes to TVLine.
“As opposed to some of the other seasons where we’ve ended on a cliffhanger,” Wyle said, “this [finale] has more of a sense of closure, and completion.” But apparently not too much closure and completion! With Live+7 DVR playback factored in, Falling Skies this season is averaging 5.8 million weekly viewers and ranks as basic cable’s No. 1 scripted series with the 18-49 and 25-54 demos, for the summer-to-date.
I say this is good news, and expected given the good numbers this season. It's been a while that a handful sci-fi series were successful in one season! Falling Skies, Continuum, Defiance, Doctor Who, Orphan Black, they will all be back next season. Okay, it's perhaps not the science fiction we want to see with ships and planets but we have to start somewhere.

Season 3 of Falling Skies launches Sunday, June 9 at 9/8c before moving to its regular 10pm timeslot. Like it's first and second season, the third season also will consist of 10 episodes.

The survivors on Falling Skies spent the past two seasons fighting the alien invaders, but in season three it looks like they might be getting their first true otherworldy ally.
Series co-star Drew Roy (Hal Mason) recently chatted with Collider about the third season, which is set to debut on TNT this summer. Though the 2nd Mass. dabbled in alien politics by getting a little help from the skitter rebellion last year, Roy says the third year could see an alien character become a true regular on the show.
Played by Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy), the mysterious new alien character that was introduced in the final shot of season two will be sticking around for a while. Roy said he had a blast working with Jones, and seems to imply that they had quite a few scenes together—meaning that the new alien character could be embedded with the 2nd Mass.
After a slow start to find its footing, Falling Skies has grown into a solid series about what happens to humanity after we’re no longer the dominant species on the Earth. It’s never been quite as heady as Battlestar Galactica, but its always been compelling.

It's still a good six months but in the UK Falling Skies Season 2 already has a pre-order date with cool cover art. This invasion series is a surprise hit, the ratings did drop a bit from the first to the second season but still drawing in very good numbers for TNT. I also have to say I found the second season to be much stronger than it's first. Not all characters are as interesting but still, it keep me coming back for more.
Like the first season, season 2 contains of 10 episodes which are told in an ongoing arc, no filler episodes. About the Blu-Ray release, it's a 2-disc release, it has English, English HoH, Dutch, Spanish and French subtitles, English and French soundtrack. Not clear at this time if this release is region free and also no word yet about the extra's.

TNT has announced that its alien invasion epic, “Falling Skies” will be returning for a third season. Despite a slight drop in ratings from last season, its numbers have still been very solid this year and it is TNT’s second highest rated scripted drama in the 18-49 demographic according to TV By The Numbers. I assume the season will be 10 episodes just like the others.

The 2nd Mass resistance militia will keep fighting the good fight according to Variety. To no big surprise, TNT is reportedly planning to renew Falling Skies, their popular sci-fi action series, for a third season.
Featuring Noah Wylie and a large ensemble cast, the second season of Falling Skies debuted to 4.46 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Season-to-date, Falling Skies is averaging 4.03 million viewers and a 1.4 demo rating.
Year-to-year, that’s down by 14% in both categories. Still, it remains TNT’s highest-rated TV show in the demo. There’s no word on how many episodes TNT will order for the third season but the two existing seasons have had 10 installments each. Season two of Falling Skies is scheduled to conclude on August 19th.

Falling Skies star Noah Wyle believes season two of the Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama is superior to season one. “I think, in a lot of ways, we have a much stronger season than last year,” Wyle told us on the set of the show. “First and foremost because we don’t have to dedicate so much time to the exposition of what the world is and what’s happened and who these characters are. We are able to start off right where we left off, and that’s made it a lot more efficient storytelling – we’ve got into deeper character issues and more interesting conflict.”
Wyle’s character, Tom Mason, will be challenged in his leadership role this season. “This season has been much more about him embracing his role and taking it to the next logical step,” continues Wyle, “Which is to reluctantly accept the responsibilities of leadership, and to feel as though he has earned the right to do so and has the capabilities to be good at it.”

3.8 million viewers/1.3
Falling Skies suffered a substantial drop in both viewers and rating in the second week of its second season. It's still one of the top shows of Sunday night, but a dip like this so early in the season isn't encouraging. We'll see if it can bounce back.

The long-awaited return of TNT’s Falling Skies down about 24% over it’s debut last year. However, that could be due to the NBA playoffs U.S. Open, given that other networks showing new programming saw similar effects, so no need to worry, there is already talk about an early third season renewal.

Two very different sci-fi alien series will collide this summer, as Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory) is set to host a new talk show based on TNT's hit invasion drama Falling Skies. Dubbed 2nd Watch, the 15-minute weekly online series will debut June 17 at 11 p.m. ET on FallingSkies.com, following the East Coast premiere of Falling Skies' second season.
Some of Wesley Crusher Wheaton's guests this season will include series stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham, Sarah Sanguine Carter, Mpho Koaho and Peter Shinkoda. Producers Greg Beeman and Remi Aubuchon; consulting producer Mark Verheiden; and producers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle will also be popping in from time to time. AMC has had similar success with a similiar format, having just renewed its popular Walking Dead-based series Talking Dead for a second season.
Sound off: Do you enjoy the talk shows built around these series, or is it all a little overkill?

Guess who's joining the resistance? The cast of Falling Skies is about to get help from a Lost favorite. Who needs machine guns and ammo, when you have John Locke and his trusty knife?
According to EW, Terry O'Quinn has snagged a guest spot on TNT's Falling Skies. O'Quinn is set to appear in the final two episodes of the second season. The actor will play "a former history professor and mentor to Tom Mason," played by Noah Wyle.
No one knows about roughing it more than Terry O'Quinn. The actor spent years playing sketchy survivalist John Locke on ABC's Lost. After the show ended in 2010, he managed to land several high-profile acting jobs. He most recently appeared on the second season of Hawaii Five-0, where he reunited with fellow "lostie" Daniel Dae Kim.
Last summer, Falling Skies became one of TNT's biggest hits. During its first season it averaged more than six million viewers and was basic cable's highest-rated new series. That's a tough act to follow. We shouldn't be surprised that they're bringing out the big guns.
Falling Skies will return to TNT this summer.
