Variety is reporting that the TV Series based on the long running French comic anthology Metal Hurlant has been picked up by the SyFy channel to start airing episodes in April. The second season of the series is wrapping up filming now but the deal has both seasons going to air in the U.S.
The series produced by We Productions and directed by Guillaume Lubrano has taken a variety of tales from the like of Alejandro Jodorowsky to Geoff Johns and converted them to 22 minute episodes. Its included the acting talent of James Marsters, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Michelle Ryan, Joe Flanigan and Rutger Hauer.
The magazine that inspired the series was founded by Moebius and Philippe Druillet and published by Humanoids. It came to the U.S. as Heavy Metal.

I tried to find some new info about the second season of this French/Belgian production but it's not that easy, mainly because my French isn't that good. I do however found out, at least if IMDB is correct, that the first episode of the second season will be broadcast on January 4, 2014 in France. I updated the episode guide for the first five episodes of the second season. Like the first season, a lot of familair faces will be seen in the, I think, 6 new episodes of the second season. A few come back for a second guestspot after being there in the first season. Some of those familair faces are: Scott Adkins (returns); James Marsters (returns); Karl E. Landler; John Rhys-Davies; Michelle Lee; Michael Jai White (returns) and many more.
Although personally I was a bit disappointed in this new series, stories and characters where not strong enough, the series is fairly popular which resulted in a second season. Still I am glad they got a second season because I hope season 2 improves because let's face it, there isn't a lot of sci-fi on tv at the moment. If you want to check out the first season and you have a region free or region 2/B player, you can purchase the first season in France of course and also in Germany. The price has dropped significantly on Amazon so perhaps you can indulge yourself. It's been released there on DVD and Blu-Ray.

The French science fiction, live-action, erotic TV anthology series "Métal Hurlant Chronicles" ("Heavy Metal Chronicles"), based on the French version of the illustrated magazine "Heavy Metal" has been renewed for another season. The series adapts original stories by erotic comics illustrator Jean 'Moebius' Giraud.
Directed by Guillaume Lubrano, "Métal Hurlant Chronicles" debuted in France with 26-minute episodes focusing on "sexy stories in a sci-fi setting". Different casts have included Scott Adkins, Joe Flanigan, James Marsters, Michael Jai white, Rutger Hauer, Darren Shahlavi, Kelly Brook and Matt Mullins.

Late last year Metal Hurlant's first season was released in DVD and Blu-Ray in France with quite a pricetag for 6 episodes of 23 minutes. The price has dropped since then but still a too high pricetag if you ask me! This month this series has also been released in Germany, a limited steelbook edition for the blu-ray and a standard DVD release. The Blu-Ray is still high priced but cheaper than the French release, plus Amazon's Germany free shipping at a certain price makes it also more interesting. The German DVD's have German subs and German and English soundtrack and the Blu-Ray does not seem to have any subs, but also has German and English soundtrack.
I have seen the episodes and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed, I expected more, the SFX is more than okay but the stories and the acting is often less than okay. Perhaps I will purchase it myself but certainly not with the current pricetag!

Release date [FR] November 2, 2012
Release date [GER] February 7, 2013
My first post about this series was November last year, then I heard nothing for a long while but last few weeks there are some updates. Last week there was a new teaser and apparently the first season, which has been shot in France, will be released there in November on DVD and Blu-Ray! At the moment the first season is being broadcast in France. The first season will contain 2 discs with 12 episodes of each approximately 26 minutes.
It's a mix of sci-fi and Game of Thrones kind of style. You can watch it in English and French language but probably only French subs. At the moment there are negotiations for broadcast with UK and Germany but not yet with North America.

The live-action series Metal Hurlant Chronicles has finally solidified a debut date; unfortunately it won’t be in the States. Based on the French comics anthology Metal Hurlant (translated directly as “screaming metal” and known in the States as Heavy Metal), Metal Hurlant Chronicles will debut in France with talks to expand into the UK and Germany. Each 26-minute long episode will center on one heroic arc in a world that combines a Game of Thrones-type fantasy setting with sci-fi elements. Directed by Guillaume Lubrano and starring Scott Adkins, Michael Jai white, Rutger Hauer, Darren Shahlavi and Matt Mullins, Metal Hurlant Chronicles is finally seeing the light this month.
The upcoming live action sci-fi television series Métal Hurlant Chronicles (WE Productions / Humanoids / Sony Pictures TV), aka HEAVY METAL, adapted from the French graphic novels by legendary comic book artist Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud. Directed by Guillaume Lubrano and starring Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Sin City, Batman Begins), Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis, Fringe, Warehouse 13, CSI: Miami), Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2, The Bourne Supremacy, X-Men: Origins), Michael Jai White (Spawn, The Dark Knight), Kelly Brook (Piranha 3D, The Italian Job, Smallville), David Belle (Prince of Persia, Bablyon A.D.), James Marsters (Buffy, Angel, Smallville, Torchwood, Hawaii Five O), Darren Shahlavi (300, Mortal Kombat Legacy, Arrow).

Actor Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis‘s John Sheppard) isn’t straying too far from science fiction with his new project: an appearance on the new anthology series Metal Hurlant Chronicles, based on the French comic Metal Hurlant (published in the U.S. as Heavy Metal).
The half-hour series is currently filming in Brussels, Belgium, and also stars martial artists Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, and Darren Shahlavi — plus Rutger Hauer and James Marsters. Each episode will adapt one of the short stories from the comics.
Flanigan will co-star with Kelly Brook (who had a recurring role on Smallville) in the show’s sixth episode, titled “Master of Destiny.”
Sony Pictures Television has distribution rights in several European territories, but there’s no word yet on when and where it might air in the United States, U.K., or elsewhere. The first season of 12, 30-minute episodes will be delivered in April, and the second season of 12 episodes in November 2012.
