Release date [US/Canada] October 22, 2013
Between 2007 and 2011, five series (seasons) of the original U.K. show Primeval were produced and aired, with DVD (and sometimes Blu-ray as well)
releases of those episodes coming out in North America between 2008 and 2012. When that program ended, the husband-and-wife science fiction writing/producing team of Judith and Garfield
Reeves-Stevens produced a Canadian spin-off of the show, Primeval: New World, which was seen up north on the Space network (and in the States on the Watch network). It ran for 1
season of 13 episodes, before being cancelled early this year.
Now eOne Entertainment has announced an October 22nd street date for a U.S. and Canadian release of Primeval: New World - The Complete Serieson DVD ($29.98 SRP) and high-def Blu-ray Disc (CA$39.98 SRP). Each will be a 3-disc set with all 13 episodes, subtitled in English. Above we've got the Blu-ray cover art.
eOne means probably not a Universal release but really a region A release like the last season of Haven and Sanctuary. So at this point the only other blu-ray release known to me is the one in Germany which is region B, which unfortunately does not have English subs but at least it's available there.

As I said in the post below, Germany has the premiere with the release of Primeval: New World's release on Blu-Ray. Here I've taken some pics from the copy I received earlier this week.
It contains 30 minutes Special features which is not much: Behind the Scenes; Meet the Cast & Inside of Cross Photonics. Picture: 16:9 (1:78:1) Audio: DTS HD 5.1 Soundrack: German and English, only German subs but they are NOT forced when watching with the English soundtrack. It says region 2 and knowing eOne, that's probably true too, I cannot verify at this point. More info on the PNW Blu-Ray release page in the near future.

Release date [GER] May 31, 2013
It's not a certainty that a new tv series gets a Blu-Ray release even when the series has been shot on HD. For example series like Alphas, Eureka,Warehouse 13, Terra Nova, all series which only have been released on DVD. Primeval: New World (PNW) first was released in the UK, also only on DVD. Chances are it will be released on Blu-Ray in North America after it's been broadcast on Syfy but luckily we Europeans do not have to wait for that because PNW has been released on Blu-Ray in Germany last month.
I must say I did not expect this but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out yesterday. The release has a German and an English soundtrack but only has German subs unfortunately, in the same way Sanctuary has been released in Germany. PNW had a rough start but found it's feet further in it's first season. Unfortunately this was too late and as a result the Canadian Space channel cancelled the series. There is still a tiny bit of hope that if the series is succesful in the US, it could garner interest for a season 2, it is however a long shot indeed.
Regarding the packaging, I don't know what to make of it, it looks like a standard Blu-Ray case with some sort of a steelbook kind of thing around it, I will clarify once it's been delivered. No word yet about the extra's, will keep you informed. On the packagiing it says region B and since it's eOne I think it really is region restricted.
Craig Engler of Syfy announced today that Primeval: New World will be broadcast on the US Syfy channel on Saturday, June 8 of 2013. It will be paired with the fantasy series Sinbad. Recently Primeval: New World was cancelled by tv station Space in Canada but good ratings in the US could perhaps mean a second season.
So spread the word, tell your friends and family to watch Primeval: New World next June! #SavePrimevalNW

Canada’s Space channel is not giving a second-season order to Primeval: New World, the local spinoff of the Primeval sci-fi series on ITV. Weak ratings explain the decision to allow the Canadian-British co-production that used extensive elements from the British sci-fi drama to go the way of the dinosaurs on Space.
This really sucks big time! Again a nice show has been cancelled, we sci-fi fans really don't get a break!

Nowhere announced yet but of course UK is the first country where this new tv series gets it's DVD release. The spin-off from the English original, created in Canada. First season contains 13 episodes and I have to say, I thought it certainly was not bad. Towards the end of it's first and hopefully not only season, more and more plots arise, which makes it interesting. Fun cast too, all likeble.
Sadly again, like with Continuum, no Blu-Ray release in the UK! Let's hope we will see a region free Blu-Ray release on the other side of the pond! No word yet about the subtitles but English sub will probably on it and also no word yet about the special features.

The eagerly anticipated North American spin-off to ITV’s time-wrangling, dinosaur-bating sci-fi hit Primeval, Primeval: New World (which, incidentaly, we were on set for!) has added SciFiNow favourite and former Andromeda and Stargate SG-1 star Lexa Doing to the cast according to GateWorld. At the moment Doig also on Continuum. A new sci-fi Canadian tv show.
Doig, who is playing a doctor, joins Stargate Universe‘s Louis Ferreira and The Cabin In The Woods‘ Dan Payne in a very SciFiNow-friendly roster. Keep checking back for more news on Primeval: New World.

Spin-off show ‘Primeval: New World‘ has been fully cast and is slated for broadcast on Watch later this year. The latest addition to the cast is Sara Canning who is best known for playing Jenna Sommers in The Vampire Diaries, and has also appeared in Smallville and Supernatural. Canning will play a ‘predator attack expert’ in the spin-off show, which promises to be edgier and sexier than its British version.
Also joining the cast regulars is Eureka star Niall Matter, who also played Mothman in Watchmen and appeared in an episode of Warehouse 13 during its first season. Matter plays a brilliant young inventor in New World. Other regular cast members already added include Miranda Frigon who’s long list of credits : V, Dexter, Supernatural, Sanctuary and Tru Calling. Geoff Gustafson (Supernatural) and relative newcomer Danny Rahim.
Primeval producer Tim Haines assures fans that there will be a certain level of continuity between New World and the original ITV shows, Andrew-Lee Potts who played lead nerd Connor in the original show has been conformed as a guest on the spin-off show as a nod to the original.

The Canadian-based Primeval spin-off, New World, has revealed its first two stars, via The Hollywood Reporter. Eureka’s Niall Matter (Zane) and The Vampire Diaries’ Sara Canning (Jenna) will lead the new team of dinosaur hunters. Matter’s character is described as an “inventor and visionary hero” (the Connor role, then), while Canning will serve as a “predator attack expert” (the Abby role then).
Another telefantasy stalwart, Amanda Tapping (Stargate/Sanctuary) will be directing episodes, along with former Stargate helmers Martin Wood and Andy Mikita. Let’s hope they don’t get confused between “Stargates” and “anomalies”. Primeval: New World is set to debut later this year in the UK and Canada. Although no US network has been announced yet, it has Syfy stamped all over it we reckon.

Remember that Canadian Primeval spinoff called New World we talked about last fall? Well, apparently it's already all set and done; ready-in-the-can, as they say. And we'll get to see it later this year. Probably. Mostly. Depends on where you live. Fingers crossed?
The 13-episode series—which will also follow the anomalies-and-dinosaurs-filled adventures of a new ragtag group of people made up of a "younger, sexier" cast—has apparently finished filming in Vancouver (the home of such popular genre shows as Supernatural and all three Stargate series).
So when will this new show air? According to Digital Spy, Primeval: New World (which has been described as "older, darker and scarier" than its predecessor, with a bit of crossover action promised) is all set to air in the U.K. on Watch later this year and will also be shown in Canada on SPACE (they are behind this new Primeval spinoff production, after all), probably around the same time. So we can expect New World to be shown in the U.S. roughly by the end of the year, right? Let's hope so.

A post-watershed Primeval spinoff will begin production later in the year, it has been announced.
The sci-fi drama began on ITV1 in 2007 and was recommissioned for a fourth and fifth series as part of a co-production deal between ITV and UKTV. While the fifth series was shown on Watch earlier this year, no details of its ITV1 broadcast have been confirmed.
Broadcast reports that Indie production company Impossible Pictures has secured an order for the "older, darker and scarier" Primeval: New Order from Canadian sci-fi broadcaster Space, which previously acquired the UK series.
PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures. The series boasts new Canadian characters and stories created by an all-Canadian team of writers. Set in Vancouver against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD takes the thrills and gripping storylines that fans of the British series have grown to love and creates something completely unique that’s darker and scarier than the current U.K. series. At the same time, story and character development will move between the two series, uniting different plotlines.
Production will begin in Vancouver in the winter, with the show expected to air in a 9pm slot during autumn next year. "This will be a bigger, better, badder re-imagining of the show, rather than a continuation," said Impossible managing director Jonathan Drake.
"We are really looking forward to working with [production company] Omni to help make a series that can exceed even the huge success of the original Primeval in international markets and with viewers across the world."
UKTV is said to be involved in talks to arrange a co-production deal for Primeval: New Order.
